Ok, I'm taking the landy to France in July on one of "Mudplugs" holidays, after getting a quote for breakdown cover from the RAC, it's more than I pay for the insurance!

Anyone recommend any other company?

Cheers Jim

I saw an AA european breakdown offered for around £65 if you go to their website, covers the whole of europe, will arrange to get you home in the event that they cant get your car fixed, seemed like good cover but read the small print properly incase there are hidden extras

I think I've found the best deal, just waiting for the office to open to confirm it.

with eurotunnel, picking the quiet times. £61 out, £49 return, and travel insurance with breakdown insurance for around £65.

The problem might be the age of the Landy, just need to confirm.

I'll post again later

Well Eurotunnel wouldn't take the Landy into their recovery plan as it's over 15 years old (J reg, 91) Under 16 years it would have been the best deal, (£63 travel & breakdown insurance/recovery for 7 days for up to 8 people)
So, I've booked with the tunnel for the crossing £10 return at the cheapest times, plus their travel insurance.
Still need to sort out the recovery job, but I have other feelers out for that.

bustersbus, you wouldn't be going on the same job would you?

Ok that man!!!!

Great bundles of gratitude to the Mad Hat Man!! :) :) :)

Called Roadsure who I have the 90 insured with, excellent deal!!!!!!

£46 for full 12 months breakdown recovery (or up to insurance renewal date) all except home start (didn't want that) for driving any vehicle, so that covers the rest of my vehicles as well! PLUS European cover thrown in!!!!

EXCELLENT!!!

Just happens that my RAC cover is up for renewal in 2 weeks time, they were going to take £100 plus (for 2 people) and still wanted £75 for the week in France.
They have been told not to bother this time, i won't be renewing!!

thank MHMan!!

RAC comprehensive euro cover, got me home from Poitiers France, with hire cars and then transported my series 111 109 home, when the gearbox went.

£96 per yr, when you belong to a 4x4 club.

crikey - i must be doin summat right today?

you can add that one to your sig daft :) i was going to say the same thing. i looked into recovery for spain for 1 month when im down in Morocco but AA waqnted something stupid like 180quid for 1 month! (non member)

adrian flux covers me UK and European for something like 50-60quid/year.

ideal

hi,i pay £280. fully comp for my disco and i get euro breakdown included.this is with coop insurance services, and my wife is also covered on a provisional licence..

I got insured with Adrian Flux last December.
I asked them when I took out the policy if I was covered for driving around Europe as we go every year. They told me I was insured and only needed to take my policy certificate which would act as a Green card.

I called them a couple of weeks ago to ask them for breakdown cover and was told they would not offer me any as it is midterm.

How unimpressed was I...?!?!

I did however ask if they could make a note on my file come renewal time to offer me the Euro breakdown cover.

Im dissapointed that it isnt an automatic step in their ploicy questions to offer it whenever someone asks for Euro insurance.

Oh well, it is the only downside to being insured with them, apart from that they are the best Insurance company in my opinion and I am enjoying my second year with them.

RAC who I have been a member of since 2001 wanted £96 for a month!!!
Told them Tesco had quoted me £69 and RAC instantly offered me the same month now for £65.
It pays to let each company know what you've been offered when shopping around.

Will ring a couple more today as only a week til the big journey starts!
