I know it has been done before on here... but there seems to be a lot of new folks coming to the forum about to start laning and I thought it might be useful to havea list of essential stuff to take with or preparations that should be made before laning. Many of the posts I have read specify kinetic ropes and such but don't mention anything about extra food, torches, water and so on...

So I'll start and I would welcome any additions... would suggest copying and pasting the list as it grows...assuming it does!

1. Recovery points front and rear of the vehicle
2. Mobile phone and recovery type phone numbers
3. Torches for occupants and outside use
4. Blankets or some sort of covers in case of breakdown (don't want the wife to get chilly!)

A decent coat, gloves and boots so that if something does happen and you need to walk somewhere, you can do. And snack food/drink, in case you get stuck and are out for longer than you planned.

OK so we're up to

In some cases like the wilds of Wales etc, it can be a good idea to hire a satellite phone.
Rent Iridium 9505a, Iridium Pager, Inmarsat BGAN Satellite Phones

A good digging spade.

Always consider worst case scenario and try not to go alone, i know it's belt and braces but consider the alternative.
I am known for my suck it and see attitude, I have been stuck in the middle of nowhere with no phone signal and it is not nice.

Marsbars are a great shot of energy, and i do belive that Morrisons have them on 3 for 2, Packs of 6 so thats 18 marsbars for the price of 12 :)

It's a very good plan (as always with greenlaning) to go in 2's. If you get proper stuck, then you have back-up to pull you out.

Three, would be better. then if three get stuck then one an pull them out. erm no
wait four if four get suck then....erm ah, i'll try again. Five......

.....Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
