Essential checks recommendations

Right, my 90 has been sitting on my drive out of action for over two years - mainly due to complacency on my part. By 'mainly' read 'totally'.... Anyway, the problem was the transfer box which I've recently had repaired and refitted. My Optima batteries were gubbed having sat for so long, so I have a new pair ready to go in and start this thing back up.

Before I do, is there any essential checks I should perform aside from the obvious fluid levels? I'm not too concerned about moving the car at the moment - I don't have the prop shafts on yet, but I'm more interested in the engine's ability to fire up and turn over. I ask only because of the time period involved and that I'm a bit out of practice also.
