Hi guys

i own a 1962 2a swb which i have just recently converted to 200 tdi what i would like to no is can i get an engineers report before i contact my insurance company ( churchill ) and or reinsure with another insurance company so i can send a copy to the insurance company and another copy to the DVLA so it may make it quicker ?

graham.

all my converted vehicles have inspection reports from independant garages which the insurance companies seem happy with, i'd go phoning round and see if anyone will be happy writting something up, and see how many quids they'll do it for!!

the key statements are "safe installation" and "brake system is suitably rated for engine upgrade"

i've not put anything through myself but the reports i have for two of my vehicles really just give a professionals opionin that the modifications made are fit for the road. one report just explains the actual engine modification, mounts, fuel system and electrics where as another one goes into detail of how the braking system is more than capable of stopping the machine as well as the engine change.

both those vehicles are now totally unroad worthy on all those points now though!!

I fitted a Transit engine to my SIII. I told the DVLA and my insurance company (Footman James). Neither requested an engineers report. Upgrading to 11 inch front brakes might be a good idea with all that extra power

on the subject of brakes, is it the 11" twin slave cylinder type that you fitted and if so did your standard none servo assisted master cylinder work well with the larger brakes?

i only ask as i have a 2a with the 11" twin cylinder brakes fitted and 2a none assisted master cylinder but it has never stopped well. i'm now in the process of fitting a servo from a series 3, i have series 3 wings on it already though so its not much of a job.

i did a v8 converstion on a 2a 20 years ago and i put the same on mine had to have a long wheelbase master cylinder (not enough volume of fluid ) and i put a rover 200 remote servo on (not a lot of room for a series 3 servo)
