Any ideas would b a great help thanks matt

the glowplug light not coming up on the dash
The glow plug light only illustrates if the engine temperature is below about 15°C. Have you checked that power is getting to the glow plugs, if the engine temperature is below the 15°C threshold?

You have not said what engine it is.

If it is an L Series then I would imagine fuel is leaking back to the tank probably due to a small air leak or the non-return valve in the hand pump failing. It could also indicate a timing issue, eg stretched injection pump belt.

If it is a TD4 there there are a whole host of possible reasons and its usually not glow plug related! I would start by adding some injector cleaner to your fuel - it'll probably help the engine even if its not causing this issue! Then you have issues such as pressure regulator O rings in the HP pump, injector issues the cleaner can resolve, crank/cam sensors, fuel pressure sensor.

I find that my hippo starts better if I turn key to start position for about 10sec turn of and turn key its starts up ok with no probs o_O

Today I went to start my fl1 and the glowplug light came on and it's not that cold today and started up fine just like she used to

The last two Diesel engines I've had never needed the glow plugs to start, one was a rover 45 and the other a rover 75. Many years ago I had a peugot 405 diesel and that didn't need the glow plugs to warm up either. I thought glow plugs were a thing of the past.
