Hi all , have just bought a 1991 RR classic 3.9 , I'm looking at buying a service kit for it and not sure on what year is the correct fitment for it?,

I'm looking on mm 4x4 and this is the kit which matches my Vin -
Service Kit Range Rover 3 5 EFi 1986 - 1991 - to VIN GA464553

but according to that it would be a 3.5? , when my v5 and engine manifold says 3.9 , so not sure if i have a 3.5 and engines been change or what?
but car is registered as 3.9 EFI vogue
is there any way to tell what year engine i have, and what parts to get? , thanks

also I'm looking at tyres and at the moment it has the standard 205/16 tyres on , would a bigger tyre fit like a 750/16 , i will be lifting it approx 1" with heavy duty police spec springs , or should i just go for standard size again ,

any help much appreciated , cheers

It says in the title of that link 3.5/3.9/4.2 so I am guessing it should be OK? Seems very cheap for all those parts though! Best bet is give them a call and to check - the air filter in the picture is square, whereas my 1991 3.9 V9 has a cylindrical air filter element, so that may be worth checking - may just be a generic image of course?

With regards to tyres and suspension lift - why do you want to lift it? If it's for more ground clearance for offroading, then beware that the stiffer Police-spec springs will reduce wheel articulation, so the car will be less capable offroad, even with the extra ground clearance - and remember, the springs only lift the chassis/bodywork, the diffs, etc will still be the same height from the ground.

As for tyres, do a search on here first, but also read this - should answer all your questions: Range Rover Classic Tire Choices

HTH :)

thanks for reply , i am not looking to lift it , just the springs on at the moment are too soft and car is sitting too low , so was looking for some standard springs , and found the police spec heavy duty ones , which form a search on here , it will give it about 1" lift , i want do some towing , so off road springs are probaly to soft for this , so thought the police spec would give the best of both worlds ? ,

i have searched and searched on this forum , but can't find a defiate answer yet , does any one know if 750 16 tyres fit with the 1" lift? ,
cheers

Did you read the link I posted? That should answer the tyre query.

As for springs, if you are towing and not planning on going off-road then the Police-spec ones would probably be a good bet I imagine - they were designed for the extra weight carried in the boot of Police RR's, after all!

yeah did read the link , but the 750/16 tyres weren't fitted on standard RR wheels so still not sure , but i do have a trailer with land rover wheels and 750/16 tyres and they do look a bit big , so will test fit one before i order tyres lol , thanks for help

you will lose your comfort on those springs

I've got them on my green RR. came with the car..Great stability at higher speeds... The missus is using it at the mo to go to work and back....and even pot holes are uncomfortable in town. True, don't even think about off roading with those springs.
For a RR thats a bit crap.
