Engine will not start unless cltuch engaged

Hi there

First time user needs your help, my defender 90 1989, 2.5 n/a diesel, driving along in 5th gear, lost a little power, pulled over and the engine stalled. The landy will not turn over unless the clutch is pressed in, then stalls once the clutch is released. any ideas

not if its a diff .




yu need to ascertain exactly what the fault is, before deciding how to fix it. Oh and no - i dont think its a diff - it is more likely to be gearbox related, but you still need to check exactly where the fault is before you can decide on how to fix it.

It does sound like the trans is dry ( when was the last time you checked the levels ??? ) --- either that or your trying to start it in gear LOL .
