Shame you scrapped it, I'm sure it would have gone alright eventually. Oh well another one bites the dust :(.
 
There is a freelander on a scrap heap in NORFOLK with a duf engine but all running gear is ok. And it was still mot,ed for 5half months

I know this is an old post and topic but I had to say something.... you know for internet correctness.
no rover used honda engines, but honda did use rover engines. when the rover 214, 216, 218 etc were on the go in the 90s honda used the k series engine in their accord. now I always thought they were pretty good engines why the k series is such a flop in the freelander i don't know. I was looking at buying a freelander this weekend but after reading about them I'm really put off the idea. but yes, put a honda engine in a freelander and it will still be k series.... same as what's in freelander already

so why not change the stem seal instead of procuring another engine? stems seals are pennies to buy and easier to replace than a whole engine.

I'm not sure that's true: I don't believe that Honda used any Rover petrol engine (other than in re-badged Discovery 1s).

Rover did use Honda engines in earlier encarnarions of the R200 (wedges), and I think in early R8 R200s.

But I agree, the K is a generally good engine with a cooling system/head gasket Achilles heel
 
Rover 600 used Honda engines in petrol form (2.0 and 2.3) Rover 800 used the Honda 2.7 V6 and even HHR Rover 400 used a Honda engine on the 1.6 auto

I'm not aware of any Rover petrol engine used in a Honda (apart from the Honda Crossroads rebadged Discovery)

A Rover 827 (Honda V6) set a blistering average speed of over 100Mpg on the IOM TT back in the 80s. Iirc Tony Pond was at the wheel of the alleged standard 827. It had to have some mods to achieve the performance it did. It definitely had a free flowing exhaust (pictured below)

I believe it was also stripped of unnecessary weight. However the 2.7 V6 lump, was a brilliant engine for its day.

OK it was just a re-badged Honda but one of the best cars my dad had. ;)

You do know Jap cars also adhere to the same laws of physics don't you??? Meaning they can and do break as well. I don't know you fully back story, but a few posts reading in on this thread and I sort of get the feeling..... well you know :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
