im about to do a engine swap on my disco how hard is it, is there any little tricks thats handy etc, im not new to cars but am new to landys thanks ?? 2.5 tdi

i left the front wheels on.
What to remove:#
rad hoses
intercooler hoses
oil cooler hoses
fuel lines
matrix hoses
power steerin pipes
exhaust downpipe
few plugs.
I took the rad out of mine for more clearance. The two top gearbox bolts can be a right arse to get at, althou if you remove the sound deading off the bulk head you can get a spanner in. I took the bonnet off aswell, Once the engine mounts are undo an free, with the use of an engine crane hoist away. Done two now, and to be fair on the side of the road not as scary as you would think. Just what it thou blood heavy engine

I agree with everything Alex just said - I had to do mine last year after it threw a con rod through the side of the block. Take care to make sure you disconnect all wiring to starter, glow plugs, fuel solenoid and temp sender coz if you rip any apart it is just more work to do later.
If you can't get to the top 2 bolts, try lowering it slightly on the crane after the engine mounts are free - this might give you a bit more room.
With my crane the sump did drag on the slam panel a bit but managed it in the end. Take care though - you don't want it landing on your foot if you get it wrong!

Those top bellhousing bolts are a bugger right enough but not as bad as the 2.3 peugeot diesel in the early sierra , that needed4 foot plus of socket extensions . The 300 only needs a couple of foot slid along the top of the gearbox and a helper above to guide the socket on with fingertips .

Like above make sure you get all the sensor wires of especially the clamps that hold the loom to the back of the head .

one final thought make sure that when you refit, make sure that the earth is back on for the starter. I forgot to put mine back on which resulted in very slow turn over of the engine and a ****ed handbrake cable as it used it as an earth and metled the plastic sheath yeah i know dick lol

In fact , take the opportunity to fit an extra heavy cable from the block to the battery ....rarely known a D1 300 that wasnt better for it
