Hi folks. Can anyone recommend any reputable salvage companies I'm in need of a td5 15p engine for a 2002 discovery. Had a look on ebay and online but just thought I'd ask on here first before I go buy one.. Also is there anything I should be looking out for? Any advice would be appreciated. P.s I won't be fitting it my mechanic will be! I just need to buy one!! Thanks

Hi mark. Yes sure, my mechanic phoned me to call up at the garage to discuss the discovery. Please bare in mind I'm not good with cars so I'll try to explain what I saw! He had stripped most of it, the timing
Chain had snapped. And a bolt had come off the front of the engine
And snapped the threaded bit that it screws into. There are four of these at the front! Apparently one bolt
That had been used was just an ordinary bolt not one that's used for the engine and there was blue silicone all around the edges... He showed me this and has said its had somE work done before and who ever had done it had bodged it. So the hole Which the bolt threads into had snapped in half and he says its nakered if the hole hadn't snapped he could have done something with it... Sorry
Not very good at explaining as I don't really know much about engines! Thanks Gemma.

Hi Gemma
No worries, I get the gist of what happened. Yes if the timing chain broke then the pistons, valves, probably the head and various other internal bits n bobs, will be toast.
The blue hylomar is not a good sign if its on the timing chain cover, as a different type of, yellow, Hylomar should have been used.

As I know from my recent rebuild, the parts alone will cost over £1.5K plus labour, so an engine swap is the best way to go.

When they do the swap its probably worth checking the clutch as well. And ask them to replace the injector seals on the new one, as its a pretty easy job.

Good luck with it, let us know how it goes.
Mark

Thanks mark, I'll get him to check the clutch and replace the injector seals. Just ordered an engine from (the engine company) it's a 15p with 62000 on it. Been tested and 3 month warranty. should be here Tuesday. So will hopefully have the discovery back soon. Fingers crossed. Thank you.

Got the discovery back today. The previous engine was a 15p with a 10p head on it apparently. He said it was a bodge job with only two fuel regulators when it should have had three. Anyway new engine in and is driving much better so far. Just got a small problem
With the radio code!!
