Driven all over trying to narrow down the squeak squeak!! Definitely engine speed related and not road speed.
High pitched, metallic sounding and several squeaks per second (sps o_O)
At idle it's nice and quiet, most noticeable 1500-2000rpm after which it starts to fade out, but not sure if that's just engine noise masking it or not.
There's no squeak from any of the accessories, though there is a bit of noise from the steering pump, it's not the same type of noise.
It's a definite squeak squeak, not the usual screech of a steering pump, water pump etc.
Any ideas or things i can try it rule out? I'm not able to recreate the noise while stationary. I guess a rolling road would be ideal though a bit extreme

It's the same multi groove belt for everything, I've taken it off and inspected.. it's a bit cracked in places but seems 'ok', belt slip is the usual screech, but i don't think that's the issue here

Paying a bit more attention, when the TC is locked, it doesn't take much use of the accelerator to get a squeak.
What does aTC sound like when it's failing? What are the usual symptoms?

A certain amount of slip from the convertor is acceptable but does the convertor slip at full acceleration?

You've probably seen the various posts I've made previously about knocking/tapping noises that I've never truly got to the bottom of.
Now this new noise, I'm wondering if it could be the flex plate knocking as per this video...

If so, could the squeak be related?

Broken Flexplate is a distinctive noise see here. ;)

easy enough to check, just remove the inspection plate off of the bellhousing and have a look inside..

A torch helps ;)

Any cracks will be evident.

As for the squeak, the converter on mine would screech when the temp was below 3c and it is a horrible noise, very high pitch..
Fluid change fixed it..
Got a video of this new noise?

I know yours is a Thor not a GEMS, but does the belt come out between the crank pulley and waterpump pulley? If so how? There doesn't seem to be enough gap on mine with a worn belt, let alone for getting a new belt in. Does the (stuck) VC fan need to come off for the waterpump bolts to come free and make space? I'm half wondering if the new pump fitted by the previous owner has the wrong size (larger) pulley on it or something.

I cannot remember what the GEMS looks like but I remember the alternator slackens off and tensions it. The grooves in the belt go in the grooved pulleys and the back of the belt goes under the smooth pulleys. After that it all sort of becomes obvious. There's probably a picture in RAVE.

Thor setup here ;)

Hi Kermit, do you have a vid of the squeaking sound? Use a bit of hose and an ear to locate the squeak... If it's a chirping sound then cd be early stage HG failure
