Engine problems

Evening all, I have rebuilt my series 1 Land Rover, just put the engine in and having problems starting it! Does anyone know why the choke cable gets hot when trying to start it?

Ooo I will having a look in a garage tommorow.It’s been a year since Iv been allowed in,I know it has some nice S1 in there
