Hi

Can anyone advise me of what oil would be best to top-up my 200tdi Disco when I don't know what oil has been used in it ?

I don't really want to replace the oil but also don't want to add a non compatible oil.

The oil looked very new when I bought the Disco and the original seller says he can't remember what was used only that it would have been what the book recommended.

Not sure how mineral, semi & full synthetic oils would mix together.

Thanks

If you have recently bought this car I would strongly advise you to give it a full service. I have bought cars in the past that have supposedly been regularly serviced, only to find terrible oils and filters in place.

You can buy a filter kit from Paddocks for about £12 (air, oil and fuel) and then you need oil:

1. Engine - 7ltrs of 10 or 15-40 mineral or semi synth;

2. Manual gearbox (LT77) - 3 ltrs of ATF Dexron II or III;

3. Transfer box and diffs - EP80-90, 6 ltrs in total. 1.7 for each diff plus 2.3ltrs for the tranny box.

4. Cooling system - 7ltrs of std engine coolant

5. Clean out the fuel sedimenter.

If you do this yourself you will be setting an excellent baseline from which to go forward.

Cheers
Dave
