Never said I was scrimping did I?? Just dont see the poinfs in paying extra for what at times is just a brand name. Its a bit like supermarket fuel versus forecourt fuels. Yes I realise that an engine is not the place to scrimp BUT if the grades etc are the same ( which they should be) then the properties are the same. The only difference might be detergents added and PRICE.

today I have finally bought the Land Rover recommended 5W30 ACEA A5 (B1, B5) oil, filters and also transmission oil at an official dealer (Castrol).

The price was Ok and as an extra I got free a nice t-shirt and a baseball hat with the fifa world cup logo on them ;)

who said that 5W30 is recommended for all:confused: .... there's a viscosity/temperature chart in the manual which shows which oil for which "region"...and for our region where there is the chance to be warmer than 30*C in the summer(especially in town near the concrete) 5w40/50 is recommended...i dont think LR would recommend 5w30 for a car which runs in Africa:(

castrol specialist also recommended this. The most important are the 5W which is the oil behevior in cold weather and also when the engine is cold. When the engine is on normal operating temp it is on about 90-100 C.
The other important is the ACEA grade which is B1 (or B5 now) and this is clearly stated in the owner manual as well. B2 or B3 also can be used only if B1 is not available (also from the workshop manual).
I am not an oil specialist so I rely on what I red on the net and what oil specialst said. Most probably other grades also can be used like 5W40 but these are not available in B1 here in Hungary. Maybe for Africa special oils are developed by the oil makers which fullfills B1(B5) and also available in 5W40.

i'm not gonna keep a whole theory here, i made serious research and i relied on a oil specialist too... just not on one who sells the oil;)
