It seems that the 300tdi engine oil gets pretty dirty quickly when its done 100 thou or so miles (124000miles).
I had the Disco into a friend who is a LR specialist early on in the summer to get the shockers all done. While it was in I had him do all the oils to save me rolling about on my back getting EP90 in my eyes and ATF down my sleeve.
He asked when I had last changed the engine oil as it looked awfully dirty, the answer to that was less than 5000miles ago so we reckoned it could (as most 300tdi's need) do with a flush. I saw a bin of Wynn's in Halfrauds for £3 so I bought one (its bloody kero and diesel!).
So my plan was to do a good engine flush this weekend, get the engine warmed up, and pour in about 1/2 a litre of diesel/kero mix and let it idle for 5minutes. Drain that and stick a new filter on, fill it with Morrison’s own special brew including the Wynn's.
Run that through for 10minutes and then let it drain for a good while, pour in a bit of fresh oil to clean any thinned stuff out and let that drain straight back out.
Put another filter on and fill with good oil.
That’s plan A.
Plan B is to put more kero/diesel/Wynn's into the engine and let it run.
Then put the Morrison’s special brew in with a new filter on its own, and simply use the fresh oil which will also clean out all the kero mix from the first flush.
Drain that and put in the good stuff.
So the question is: has anyone else cleaned out their 300TDI, or indeed any other diesel of similar mileage.
Has anyone had a lift pump fail on them and leak diesel into the oil, which has inadvertently done what I am talking about.
If so, did you notice any leaks that developed as a result of the gunge which may have been helping seal things being removed, any bad noises, and any engines seizing and never running again?
