As per title, I have a 87 90 defender that once had a N/A diesel in it, but someone took this out and put in a Rover SD1 V8 3.5 engine. Now all I've been able to work out for sure is it does have the rover SD1 engine mounts mouted to the brackets on my chassis. So what I want to know is (as I plan to very soon put in a disco 200tdi) what my chassis mounts should look like. so does anyone have any pics of their N/A engined vehicles mounts? so I can see what they should look like, as I'm not sure what they have done to the mounts on my chassis to make the SD1 brackets fit it.

Or has anyone put in a SD1 V8, or V8 of any sort so they can tell me what they had to do to the original N/A chassis brackets? any help with this will be much appriciated!

Not sure how much use these will be to you....but you can just about make out where my chassis mounts are....1984 110 originally N/A (now Disco 200 tdi) :)

Ah, Thanks very much, I'll study those. But good or not, thanks for taking the time to put them up :) Any others will be great from anyone else, as I'll need all the info I can get to work this out!

The chassis brackets on the chassis look the same shape as What I've got on my chassis still. Not entirely sure though. unless they have been cut off and welded on again further along the chassis or something? Also, If you did it yourself, was it a straight forward job to do? anything I need to look out for, or tips? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a place thats willing to do the swop for £500-£600 assuming I have all the parts needed to do it. did you get any bits from steve parker? Prob I have is seeing it's a V8, i'll prob have to get a full 200tdi exhaust for a start. And would the clutch fork etc in my LT77 box be the one for the original N/A engine, or one for the V8 does anyone know? or does it make a differance? as I may as well replace that while it's all in bits.

How long did it take you to do by the way? and was it your only one? sorry for all the questions lol. just want to know if it's worth getting the garage to do the swop for £500 odd quid, or have a go myself? :)

if it where me i would have a good look to see if yours are original in which case leave and fit early engine mounts on engine ,job done ,or if altered ,cut off fit new mounts on engine with chassis one bolted to them fit engine without clutch and position correctly mark or tack chassis mounts and weld on properly with engine out

Yes I did it myself...and I am as limited as they come in mechanical matters, so yes...is pretty starightforward!
For tips, help, advice...search on here! There are hundreds of threads about 200tdi conversions. Or see Glengoyne or others..
Got a fabricated exhaust bend...but wasn't Steve Parker...a search on ebay will help for that.
How long etc depends on your abilities, space, equipment etc...but....if you think you can...and you don't...you will regret not trying!! :D
Enjoy!

Ok thanks, Think I just need the confidence to give it a go, (I have a 26ft by 11ft garage to work in) and think you've given me that. Just wish I knew if my chassis mounts were in the right place. I could do without the hassle of cutting them off, and re-welding them on again.:( Also, a daft question, but what do I do about my choke cable that goes to my carb? just take it out? And was the electrical side of things straight forward enough to do? i.e. Do you have to worry about wiring in glow plugs etc? :)

Ive looked at doing the V8 to 200 tdi and after a lot of research you do need to move the mounts, the steve parker kit has all the details and templates apparently but I was planning on doing it all myself but time will tell.

Cheers Steve

I've Just found out from 'steve parker' the bits I'm going to need to do the job i.e. extended PAS pipes, exhaust adaption, rad pipes, etc etc, is going to come to quite a bit, then I'll have to buy an engine crane. And as I said I'm not sure if I'll have to move the engine mounts or not. Now my welding is ok I think, but those have to take quite a bit of weight, and would prefer them for a start to be done professionally.

The Landrover specialist place I've got in mind to do the job has quoted me for removing the V8, and putting in the disco 200tdi doing it their way by cutting and welding, or brazing pipes, and making up stuff to fit from what they have around the garage, in other words I wont have to spend any money on extra parts, it'll all be labour. And they have quoted me £7-£800 for doing the job so I just drive it away.

They have done loads before so know whats involved. Now being 52 years old, I'm getting to the stage where I just want to tinker with my vehicles now, rather than get involved with major rebuilds, also I'm not entirely confident about my welding to the extent it needs to be, so I've decided to bite the bullet and let them do it.

I'm just looking forward to the easier jobs like fitting a snorkal etc. I've just resprayed him, and fitted a winch myself via twin batts and a split relay, those sort of jobs I love, and can always think of a small job to do to keep me busy. When it's done, i'll let you know if Im pleased or not with the job. then I'll tell you the company that did it incase anyone else wants it done. :)
