hi there, can anyone help with the following problem with our 1998 freelander diesel??? for a couple of months its been overevving on idle (sometimes) at about 1200rpm. for the past few weeks it feels as though the fuel supply is being cut off when foot is lifted off accelerator when driving along (very jerky). the engine management warning light comes on at the same time. it now also idles at up to 3-4000 rpm while other times its ok. took it to a lr specialist who done a full diagnostic check. they said the potentiometer was faulty but that a rusty connection was also spotted. they made many excuses about being unable to fit a replacement so i purchased a part elsewhere and fitted it myself (£200!!!). problem is still there. AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!! please help, many thanks.

I would start with basics first if you haven't already e.g Check for fuel contamination, Copper washers/seals on fuel system for damage or bad seals fit new fuel filter etc
If this doesn't turn up a fault the wiring between throttle the EDC ECU and the injetion pump. Other than that it will need the diagnostic computer on which as you know is a specialist job
