Hi Folks,
On starting the FL to come home tonight, the missus noticed that the red engine management light came on and stayed on. She as per the handbook switched off, left it for a minute then started again. Still on. Drove home, motor seemed down on power (get you home mode?) but otherwise running ok. She had run in late for work this morning, and had run the FL well into the red on the fuel guage(out the bottom supposedly) if that makes any difference. I guess I'm gonna have to have her put on the diagnostics, and I'm hoping that a sensor is just covered in ****e out the bottom of the tank, but any thoughts? Oh yeah, '98 Xedi, but then it sez that down below, doesn't it?

Hi,

Does the engine light stay on? If so, it's running in 'emergency program'
mode which won't be the most fuel-efficient way of travelling!

You've got 2 choices:

1) Take it to a garage and let them plug their fault-code reader in and find
out why it's unhappy. This will cost about 20 quid.

2) Read the fault code yourself. This is done by locating the ECU
diagnostics plug and shorting a
couple of pins on it. This makes the engine warning light blink a sequence
that tells you what the problem is.

There's a few web sites that detail option 2. Here's one to get you going:

Fault codes for Bosch and Simtec Mpi main engine ECU

Observe the warning notices it contains!

Cheers,

Adam

Thanks Adam,
Yep, it stayed on(note the past tense:D) and she was def running 'off colour'. This morning tho, the Doris got in, started her up, no warning light! 25 mile run into her work, still no light:D. I'll monitor it, but fingers crossed it was just pulling all the ****e out the bottom of the tank that caused it. Thanks for the link tho, that'll go into storage for future reference!
