Freelander 1 Engine Light iCarsoft

Hi

Have had the engine management light come on on my 2004 Facelift TD4.

I have purchased a iCarsoft LR V2 diagnostic tool thinking I would be able to see what is wrong, every time I connect it it says Link Error so I can't get a code off it.

Is the diagnostic tool not suitable for this model in this scenario?

Any help would be most appreciated.

My initial thoughts are that the device should work. Have you checked its spec?

It should work ok.
Check the OBD2 socket for damaged connections.

I will have another look tomorrow, tried it on my 06 and it works perfect.

Just had another look at this and the socket looks perfect, nothing looks out of place and cables are all ok in the rear of the socket.

Are you letting the Icarsoft automatically detect the car?

I have plugged it in and tried the diagnostics and that just comes up with ABS and Immobiliser when you choose Freelander 2000/2006. This is the only thing I can get it to read.

I have tried using the diagnostic way which asks for you to enter vehicles make an model which only comes up with Abs and Immobiliser, when you try the diagnostic it says “Link Error” with dome checks, cable connected etc.

Just had a message from icarsoft and they have suggested go in to diagnostics and manually search, so I will try this tomorrow.

Well that made no difference at all, have extra options but all say "Link Error" except for ABS and Immobiliser.

Could it be that there are just no other control modules for it to read? If so that will be £135 wasted.

As it works on another similar spec car it must be the vehicle with the problem.

If all else is working, there is presumably a networking issue between the engine ECU and the ODB port. I don't know if the ABS and Immob use different pins on the ODB port.

The icarsoft diagnostic tester is crap for Td5 and Td4 engines.

Strange as they are completely different animals - 1 being a Rover engine and the other being a BMW. Dunno if they share similar ECU/EDC - but that would be about the only similarities.

Hi, do you know anybody with a different make of reader you could try? or pop down to a local repair place & ask them if they'll plug their reader just to check the socket. I bought a Foxwell NT530 which works fine on my 04 F/L & 01 D2 TD5 but I do have to put both car types in manually. I plugged it into my neighbours 09 XF Jag & it recognises that automatically so I just think my two Landies are too early to for auto recognition.

Does it run ok and looks like a communication error?
I googled freelander obd pinout and it uses 4 pins. the data, I think, is on pin 7.
Looking at wiring diagram that should be pink and connects to each module.
Could be damaged cable to ecm?

I have been trying all weekend and some times it comes up with 5 or 6 different modules other time just 2 but always saying there are no error codes but the EML on the left of the dash (One with no explanation mark) is constantly on.

Checked all the OBD wiring and socket and all is OK.

I am still struggling with this.

I have purchased another engine code reader and it still isn't connecting to it so I beginning to think it may be wiring somewhere that is not right.

Didn't I suggest that? Maybe not, I can't remember.

Check the CAN connectors at the EDC, and it's probably worth re-seating the Ipack connectors too. I can't remember if the EDC uses the CAN for diagnostic coms, or the W bus. I'll check in a bit.

I will give it a try,

I had icarsoft for my 2000 td4 auto ES. It would not connect to anything, tried updating firmware, still nothing, sent it back for a full refund, apparently, they knew some 2000 models had problems with it.??
An ELM 327 won't connect to engine module either....is 2000 too old to be odbii compliant.
