engine knock, when warm.

discovery 2.5tdi.the old girl has developed a bit of a loud clanking sound , only when warmed up (the car that is,not wifey) it's not the usual diesel clatter,and it don't sound like big ends, oil pressure is good and no smoke,
it comes on under load i e when setting off and its a definate clank. any help would be much appreciated ron.

Is it at cam or crank speed hows yer brakes could be the vacum pump

thankyou for that quick reply, brakes seem fine it appears to be at crank speed, very confusing..... ron.

Did you ever get it fixed>> I know its a bit late in the day but I just had the same sort of knock from mine and it turned out to be the serpentine belt tensioner was loose ( not the nut holding the bearing) the nut holding the unit to the engine. I saw the idler wheel jumping up and down when I revved the engine. Tightened it up and all is well again. Phew!! it sounded like an expensive knock when it first started
