Engine hoist, scrap, fix or buy.

Another thought from what you said earlier, an interesting idea for me could be to lock off the hoist in the uppermost position and use a scaffold winch on the end of it, certainly would take the work out of it, and you'd be able to go up and down when your thrutching about inside the car trying to get the bellhousing to line up, tell yer what you wanna try doing this when yer hoist is permantly lowering itself, a right ballache.

well i rekon am gonna sell the hoist winch's,does anyone know wot thi woth,ones a morris chain-master its a bit old lukin.but the other one luks like new,its a stahl ST1000S G1 1/1,415V,0.85KW,SPEED 8.0m/min.

I dont wanna be a smart arse but you mentioned making a press out of a bottle jack, you say its air over oil, this may well work ok, I tried a similar thing, making a pipe bender out of a hydraulic bottle jack, but it didnt work, turned out that the jack would not work on its side or upside down as in a press.
Dunno bout your application, however I'm sure you've allready tried it, but make sure your jack will actually work upside down first.
Bottle jacks often use ball bearings as check valves, and as I found out they dont work upside down or sideways, you can try a spring assisted ball bearing check valve but its a ballache to get em to work.

Yeah that looks cool and its a feck off jack.
I've never seen one like that, mi old one had 2 jacks, one the right way up being used just as a pump, and the other was upside down used as a cylinder, with a copper tube connecting them, via the 2 safety valve ports, with the safety valve on a running 'T', the benefit was with this that you could press out a long shaft downwards,as there is nothing beneath the ram assembly, you could just keep adjusting the lath untill you finally pressed out whatever it was you were doing.
Bit cheaper only having to use 1 jack, and lookin at that you'll be able to use the jack out of the press, cool idea.

Well this is mi engine lift with a new section grafted on, ie bottle jack.
New seals comming in 2 weeks will fit the new seals and cylinder then, and if it doesnt fecking work then the jaks gannin back on.

good job that mate, yeah i thort of using two jacks, might make a smaller press for bench use with a couple of 2 tonne jacks instead of 20 or 30 tonnes ! spose if yer wanted to yer could just let the bastid rip and bust yer press in a split second,

I wondered if a trolley jack would work upside down in a press, as they are already sideways.
You could put a bottle jack at the top of the press with big return springs, and a moving bottom jack support beam with a mandrel on t'other side for shoving with, then you'd have lots of room underneath for long things, or a hole in the bench to put an axle through or summat.
Looks like what you've put together 90 truck cab will stand all the force from the jack, you could let it rip no probs, pity you couldnt put the price of petrol in there and squish it.
Just had an interesting idea, you can get weld on axle mounts to fit the disco axle to the series, well it'd be cool if you welded one of these to the pad of a bottle jack.
