hi were would i connect the engine crane to the engine as dont wana stress or break any components with the weight on the lift, (or drop ;) ) i just cant find any links/posts for a engine removal ANYWERE :(

acquire some lifting eyes or use manifolds most engines 4 m8 studs take all the weight

strop or wire rope loops round crankshaft pulley and rear block bell housing flare is the way I used to do it but since having 300tdi engines on stands held by just 4 x m8 bolts Fans suggestion makes a lot of sense ....also many other engines you will find lift eyes mounted on manifold studs ....however if you do it the first way but use cargo straps you get to have the option of adjusting the horizontal plane of the block as it comes up which can be handy

I used a chain but had two seat belt anchors as they where stamped at 2.5 ton, bolted one to the front R/H side of the cylinder head and removed one of the rear outer cylinder head bolts took the weight no problem.

Seat belt anchors ....clever ! Will remember that one ....goes on the list of seatbelt re-use along with cargo strap replacement sections and guitar straps .

Ha ha they wasn't from the disco they where out of an old series i had years ago and found them in a draw in my garage and thought i would use them as the series engine lifting points i had wouldn't fit, i think in some cases on the 300 the front lifting eye is fitted from new but doesn't have a rear one fitted where as on a 200 both lifting eyes are fitted from new but my mates 300 didn't have any fitted probably a p o or garage removed them at some point so had to make my own up.
