Hi I recently bought a series 3, it has a 19J TD which I'm afraid I just can't live with.
Which gearbox will this have and which are the most common conversions ,200tdi ?

Many thanks in advance

if you have 4 speed box then std series ,200tdi will fit on too with the removal of some of the lower studs which wont hurt in any way more than enough studs are left to secure both,if its 5 speed most likely lt77 and same applies

You CAN leave those studs out IF you enjoy changing rear main oil seals ...
If you don't then some drilling/counter sinking and fitting of countersunk allan headed bolt's is the better option ;)

ive fitted quite a few over the years and havent found anymore leakage than std, 2.5 td or na dont have bolts into ladder frame ,i can see your thinking but doesnt work out that way in practice,if oil was to leak it would more likely be between block and housing put housing is secured enough not to ,200 tdi rear gasket is a good addition to fit to earlier 4 cylinders

Thanks for all the advise. I have a 200tdi now so, I'll read all the conversion threads on here :)
