Hello All,
Driving home from the shops yesterday and Engine Failsafe Prog lite up on the message center, but no loss of power or anything. So got home and put multimeter on the battery and got a reading of 12.25v. So decide new battery time anyway mrs went to use car today and got the christmas lights on the dash,HDC,ABS,Airsusp Inactive, etc and i told her not to use until i got home. So bought a Bosch S5 and fitted it tonight.
Now this is where its gets interesting, turned RR on, started no problem, did the lock to lock for DSC and all lights gone, then put in R to get of the drive and the idle started going haywire:mad:, 1200-250 rpm then back again and wont rev. Put it back into park and kept doing it then stalled. Restarted EFP on message center again and just idled at 1200rpm for about 2 minutes so turned it off and had a think about what was happening. Got to get it off the drive so started it again runs perfect put it on the road and let it idle for about 5 minutes all normal,so then drove it for next half hour, fast roads, slow roads and abit of town driving to make sure everything ok and it runs like nothing ever happened.
So the question is, is it just electrical gremlins or does the engine ecu normally do this after EFP or am i overlooking something and yes i will get the codes read , cheers

You got any diagnostics equipment ?

Yes / No, have a Faultmate extreme bought it when i got my P38 about 3 years ago now. Just need to get software for the L322, was trying to hold on until i sold the P38 then exchange but might have to get software sooner now.So looks like blackbox solutions will be getting a phone call before christmas.

Well with blackbox solutions been closed over christmas finally got the software for the l322 for my faultmate, didn't bother with the p38 exchange was worth keeping for £120, took a few hours to load tup codes and software update to server unit. Anyway tested TPS and lots more and nothing,no fault codes stored or anything, all as it should be with oem values and everything. Cars run perfect since new battery install so can only put it down to ecu relearn with correct battery voltage or hard reset has done the trick. On the up side found out why my front parking sensors weren't working because someone in the passed had them turned off. So just got to do change PCV unit and oil separtor and crankcase tubes now for a bit of piece of mind and the cost of this new found knowledge £670, but with even indies costing £45-£60 per visit and the fact i can use it when i want and get live data i can't really complain considering i can now check the car straight away if (and i will) have a problem.Plus on the upside i have still got the codes for the p38 until i sell it.

be interesting to know what you find in those crankcase tubes. my to one was virtually completley blocked

the pcv valve? have you got part number?

Sure mate

This is the uprated cyclone type BMW filter, not the crappy material one!

bmw part number 11127799367

Fits straight in place of original sponge type filter using the existing housing

Got mine on eBay for around £20

Hope that helps
