If it is a P38 yes,as there is a security code link between the becm and the engine ecu.

hi you have not indicated what engine you have but i am assuming its petrol .
i have not changed an engine ecu on the gems engine but i have on the thor engine , the ecu.s are coded and you cant change the code on the ecu , what you need to do is read the code of the ecu and change the code on the body controller to match ,otherwise it wont run

You will have to read the EMS code from the EDC ECU then write it to the BECM. So i am told. If Hawkeye can do that.

are you thinking of a sync-mate ? i think you could be right ,faultmate and autologic yes , you would think sync-mate will as wellYou should, I think, be able to re-sync it, I'm sure you can with a Faultmate.

the first picture is read from the ECU via faultmate, the second is a picture of the readout from a part of the Becm showing the immobiliser code that is the same as the EMS code. this can be written to the Becm via the OBd2 port under the passangers glove box, this code in the Becm MUST match the ECU code on diesel range rovers (p38) or it will just crank for as long as the battery is able.

I was thinking of Hawkeye. I believe the sync code is a fixed value after it is first written in the Diesel ECU. You can buy the diesel ECU new set for no immobiliser handshake or for a code to be written on instalation. Once the code has been written it is not possible to go back to no immobiliser mode.

I think when they leave the LR factory, they might just all have the same code (which is something obvious that I won't publish in Hexadecimal code). Might be interesting to just swap one over and see if it works

I think I will leave that for you to try first. A few years ago when fitting an uprated chip I managed to get my car into "limp home" mode. Engine gearbox and suspension all stopped working properly!
