If fob needs sync you cannot do it whilst engine is disabled. You need EKA code first. Then when alarm is disabled putting key in ignition will sync it.

Maybe thats where I'm going wrong, failed to get my fob to sync but I have the engine disabled message,

Got a bloke with the Testbook kit to resync the engine coming next Wed.

Resyncing and and turning off engine disabled are two different things. If the ECM and BECM are out of sync the engine disabled message will not appear, you just won't be able to start your engine. Engine disabled is shown if the alarm system thinks the car is being stolen. If you lock the car with the fob then open it with the key, "engine disabled enter EKA code or press fob" will appear. If your fob is working just pressing it will sort that out. If it's not you have to enter the EKA code to remove engine disabled notice. If your fob is not synced with alarm you cannot resync it until the engine disabled message has gone. If the car is out of sync it means there won't be a engine disabled message but your car won't start. That is because the security code held in the ECM has to match the one stored in the BECM, if it doesn't the car just will not start. Re sync in this case is copying the ECM code to the BECM so they will talk to each other.
If you have the engine disabled message, all you need to sort that is to enter EKA code that will clear meassage then the fob will sync to the alarm. On mine you just put the key in the ignition to do that.
