Hi Guys,

will a Vgate VS550 OBD2/EPBD-2 code reader be able to read the fault codes on my Hippo. And do you have any better fault reader ideas that won't break the bank.

The Vgate is £35

My Freelander It is an 02 plate TD4 3 door.

I would be interested to know this, and I dont remember seeing any other threads here helping.

From what I gather, diesels the age ours are (mine is a 2001) are not OBD compliant, despite having an OBD port. This means cheap code readers tend not to work, hence why people shell out for Hawkeye which is £150+ iirc.
Whether the ever-industrious chinese have made a knock-off that will work on our cars yet, I dont know.

If you go onto amazon on search for 'prosteruk ms509' , its red with a black rubber protective case and comes with a proper carry case also. I brought that code reader last week, works pretty well, doesn't do everything, but does read the codes, also gives you live data while your driving, not bad for 26 quid with free delivery. I'm happy with it....

Yes, I have a 2002 td4.
It doesn't do all the features on the reader, but it does the vast majority , defiantly able to read the codes etc, as it detected a faulty sensor on my diesel... Hope that helps...

The prosteruk ms509 looks identical to the autel ms509
