I have a problem with my 95 4.0 P38. It drives for about 20 minutes then the engine cuts out and "gearbox fault" comes up on the dash. It won't start for about 30 minutes then will drive for another 15 minutes before it cuts out again. Can anybody give me any advice on the problem? I've noticed that it will also start in gear, it's an automatic. Thanks John.

I am having a similar problem with my p38. Engine cutting out after just a few minutes drive and can't re-start for about 20 minutes. I am also getting the gearbox fault on display as it cuts out. What did you do and what was the outcome?

Start with checking your battery voltage. Sounds like a failing battery or tired alternator or both.

when my battery and alternator were duff i was getting that gearbox fault and problems starting i replaced both at same time after testing them with a multimeter and guess what started no probs first time and no more faults so rewmer has a good starting place for you took look!!
