Anyone know if a standard engine crane can lift high enough the remove the engine from a lifted defender on 35” tyres? The engine is a td5 worried a standard 1 or 2 ton one won’t be able lift high enough, Cheers

Suppose my best bet is to try it as is then try letting tyres down or removing wheels if needed

what about an A frame and block and tackle old school. or get a cheap set of normal 16" rims ans then move them on after you have finished

On my standard defender I had to remove the radiator and panel as the sump wouldn’t clear it. Fed it between the wings carefully, on a N/A

What about trying to hire one you could try HSS / lift and shift or find a local scaffolding company buy some tubes and clips and make your own.
Thats what I did, but I had the tubes and clips anyway.

If you got room get a mate with a winch and use a snatch block, take a lot of the hard work out of it.
Have to take care to not pull the A frame over, better with a block and tackle, more effort though.

Good idea, would the angle of it being down at the front make it hard to remove though?

The angle of the dangle will make it come out easier, getting it back in will be harder, as you will be effectively pushing the engine back up hill whilst trying to get the splines to line up.
I take the entire rad/intercooler pack out, incl the front grill as well.

With a standard crane ans wheels the engine comes out, but you dont have much clearance, the further you extend the arm the less stable the crane becomes, so it's a juggling act
