the round drum thing will be your bell housing, just between that and the engine is where the adaptor plate usually goes,
i had a look at the link you posted of the holden engine last night, and that motor wont have the dizzy or other parts as he is mainly selling the engine, he placed some parts on there to run the engine, so i dont think it would be good to buy, id try to buy maybe another engine the same as the nissan engine you have now if possible, or try to find another engine that has the engine mountings in the same position, but maybe a datsun sunny petrol engine would fit in,

there is a bloke in australia here, called mark and he started up a business called mark 4wd adaptors, http://www.marks4wd.com/ maybe you could send him a email and he'll probably be able to help you out as they are a engine conversion firm.

yep ok that makes a bit more sense then, thanks kommer
ill chuck some photos up of the diffs on mine tonight, if you would be able to let me know what they are! - im new to 4wd's so excuse the dumb questions!!

i dont totally understand how an engine conversion works but was landybuff talking about the engine compression ratio? i know someone who has put a ED33 (nissan 4 pot) into a landrover series, and they didnt get something right...(i think it was adapter plate for gear box, but correct me if this doesnt add up)....so in first gear, low range, it would idle up his very steep driveway, which i would have thought was due to the 3.3 four pot having far more engine compression than the previous engine!! but any knowledge/corrections that can be passed down on the subject would be great!!
I mean this is in the nicest way, but wtf????

As you say, you don't know how an engine conversion works, that's fine. Although I'm not surer the op does either. Engine compression is irrelevant in terms of an engine swap, and will have no affect on gearing.

As for your claim, a standard 2.25 petrol Series should do that easily.

yeah i think i wont worry about the holden engine as i dont have a lot of funds.
i think i will go with the td 27......or ld 28!!
the engine mount should be the same as a sd 23??
i think thats the best option for you.

a landrover 2286 petrol crawling up a steep hill, ahh i dont know about that, you cant get heavily loaded small petrol engine to go up a steep incline at idle as the engine just doesnt have the sufficient torque, maybe if it was at a 1000rpm it should. say if it was a kraz truck driving driving up a hill then yeah. nuf said.

i dont mind the 38a rangie.

this is a type of vehicle i would love to get,

apparently i can purchase a brand new Russian made URAL truck for $50,000 Australian, it comes with a standard Russian Kamaz 740 V8 non turbo diesel no electronic rubbish not common rail all mechanical, they dont come with a warranty though but this is the best bit they are able to be serviced by the owner himself as they are very easy to work on, if you are able to work on engines then you could work on one of these the top speed however is around 45mph, they are very reliable, and they will last for years, very strong soviet design. very minimal electrics.

if you wanted to you could probably pull a house down with one of these.
Kamaz V8 diesel engine
