Great to hear ur well mate and also well chuffed that you’ve resolved the leak

Indeed extremely knowledgeable guy , must confess I would have used all new pistons , rings etc but of course not my engine

talking of discos I’ll be replacing all my brake callipers seeing they keep sticking plus my rear lower wishbones , have fitted all new brake hoses front and rear , along with the Meyle HD drop links on all 4 x corners

also considering if I should replace all my discs at the same time, often looked at the drilled / slotted discs but heard they can crank along with the grooves filling up with rust , will also give it a full service , know I’ve only covered at the most 1.5k but would rather do that , next year the timing belts are due

Saw a gorgeous black D4 a little while ago , fitted with a 5.0 petrol V8 , only 65k on the clock but out my price range @ 26k , but wow what a motor

oh and been messing around with that new scanner my pops for my, the Autel MX808 , really impressed of its capabilities and so nice that it’s not locked to just one motor but capable of doing any make of model that’s OBD2 compliant , did see some other protocols which I’m not familiar with

All the best my friend , shame ur not closer as would have been fantastic to have given u a hand with the disco , catch u later as always nice being able to chat

Oh and also got the Autel endoscope the other day , really pleased with it seeing it plugs into the scanner and picture quality is very good

The break out box should also be very handy as didn’t realise at first the scanner can be plugged directly into the box instead of the port, really do enjoy learning new things

one day will get an oscilloscope, like the pico as they look good value for money along with free software, seeing this is my first obd2 compliant vehicle I don’t mind admitting it’s been a very steep learning curve

Plus one of the most useful tools I got was the test light as watched a video a while back of how u can get caught out using a multimeter, ie testing continuity where a circuit tests ok but then when using a test light putting it under load it fails,

apologises I’m waffling again , lol

Seen many people caught out with a multimeter, saying well I have 24v the multimeter says so, headlamp bulb is good for load testing wiring, also good for finding dead shorts.

Power probe or the sealey cheap copy are also mega handy.

Is a shame your not closer could do with your electrical skills had a few head scratchers, sure to be picking your brain in the future, On my broken crank 2.7 138k there is not a mark on any of the pistons no signs of wear at all no marks in bore, mine also broke in the same place will be replacing no 1-5 con rods these were on the smaller broken section and rubbed slightly on the crank, have spare oem rods new shells, mains and big end and will be re-ringing also using a jag crank i have to say I agree if its not broke and within spec reuse it otherwise costs can spiral but a good machine shop will take all the difficulties of measuring and spec for you he does tend to over complicate things I worry this might put people off taking on a project and also the obligatory " you have to take the body off "
