Electrics!!!!

just a quick question...

I need to move something urgently by trailer in the morning, it's the first time I've had to use the tow bar since owning this defender. I've just had a quick look behind the rear light cluster and found a whole bunch of wires with the old Lucas 4.7 bullet snap connectors. From what I can make out, there are two sets of wires, one from the vehicles loom and then one from the tow bar. The problem I have is that all of the wires are covered in black paint. I'm going back out tonight to try and clean them up. Does anyone know what colours I should expect and any retrospective pairing.

Any photos would be greatly appreciated.

Bit of a pain, but the only way I can think to sort that out would be to test the wires. They should be + when function is active. Trailer sockets are all standard, so you can search for a wiring diagram. I had to jury rig mine once as it's a NATO socket. Took about 20 mins to sort it out. Keep in mind that there are extra wires there such as fogs which are not used in normal tow wiring.;

Technically the fog light should be connected (though under a certain width they're not mandatory).

You'll need to identify both indicators, brake lights, fog light and left and right tail lights, plus a good earth point. Reverse lights aren't needed on a trailer (and on a 7-pin socket there's not space for it).
