thats what my 90 is... I hate it!

not sure why but if i indicate right i get my sidelights and indicator on (also on the dash....

if i put my side lights on my side lights and right indicator come on permanently.....

No idea where to start other than a gallon of petrol and a match...

currently i have no front wings on and my rear passenger indicator needs replacing or the earth needs sorting so I'm unsure if its actually lighting both indicators up.....

where do i start, front, rear, behind the dash....

well i changed the dash for a td5 one, whilst I'm 99% sure ive got everything right Its nothing to do with the illumination of the dash as the switch itself would turn on the lights...

I know before it sat on my drive for 2 months that the left rear indicator didnt work and when i took the cap off there is nothing left of the screw that earths the left rear indicator so thats the problem there. Im just not sure how the sidelights are turning on the indicator on that side...

Where would the wires be together to cause that kind of fault? Behind the corner caps at the rear of the tub?...

Just been out...

took the rear panel off, pulled the earth to the rear light as its the brightest as if the break is on, nothing, pulled the green, stayed on, pulled the red and it went off ( rest stayed on)

numberplate light is on, brake lights and right indicator...

Plugged in right wing to see if front side lights were on and they were, front indicators and front sidelights with rears....

so indicators make all flash together, side lights light everything up...

I moved the clocks and switches as they are sat loose and all of a sudden just the right indicators started working normally, then after a few seconds back to normal, so i think its a problem behind the dash somewhere, what will link them together??

Go to halfords

Buy 4 earth straps .

Make 4 fresh earth points - one at each corner.

Rewire

Its simple , every light needs the appropriate switched live and an earth - so connect all the earths to your new earth point.

Switch on the piece of kit you want to wire up and use your new multimentre between earth and each wire till you find a live one.

Plug the live one in :)

Im not an electrical wizz but using this method managed to fit an entire second hand 200tdi loom front to back in my yolk.

you said the clocks and switches are loose? are they shorting out on the dash frame? Earthing themselves without need of switch

I dont think so, Tomorrow or monday I'm going to bolt it back on, I have used a TD5 indicator stalk just cut off the old connector and wired the block back on, all the connections are good on it and the wires match colour for colour and position for position so i might drop the old one on just to be on the safe side tomorrow.

Fair point, Might be worth doing, I thought that the screws that held the lights on earthed to the body.

Behind the corner of the rear tub there are cables everywhere on mine.

Sounds daft but there is a common fault.... Remove the flasher module and pop it open then check for water. They often fill up and cause bizarre faults I just fixed one like this on here last week by remote control with the same tip. If it is full of water just dry it out and spray WD40 in then mount it the other way up so it can't do it again.

So I checked the flasher unit and it's clear (I can see into it) and it's bone dry...

Then I disconnected the rear wiring in the engine bay to find that the side lights worked alone then...

I did a continuity test on some wires going back to the rear lights and the red seems to be touching alot and the red black also did. Not knowing what those were actually supposed to be feeding I decided to take the loom out the chassis...

The wiring entering the chassis at the rear looked ok but I decided to chop it at the front and pull it out.

Struggled to get it out and to my horror found what I think is causing the problem.

Frayed wires, bodged joins. The #### who owned the truck before me strikes again I guess.....

Its 80 quid iirc for an autosparks loom

Best 80quid i spent on the rebuild . Like you my previous owner was a butcher.

You need a 19j one as the 200tdi is different !

£80 for a loom!! Where, I'll buy one for my rebuild and add the 3 miles of extra wiring to it :) {2nd battery, TD5 dash in a 300TDi, 13 lights, electric fan, remote alarm, electric windows, central locking inc safari door, full total closure, heated mirrors and windscreen and more}

Might be worth getting one. Once I get a garage built next year I think it will be new chassis time for mine where it can be stripped in a nice warm dry garage..

I'll upload some pics later when home.. I've took too much on again as usual with td5 dash ect

TD5 dash isn't too bad really just a little fiddly for some of the bits. If I can get a cheap loom then I'll modify the new loom with all my extra bits before it even goes in :D I've found a company that sells single wires by colour so you buy 50m and say 4m of yellow, 5m of blue/black, etc etc This allows you to modify the loom with all the correct wiring so it's neat and tidy.

Thats what he is lol...

Pulled the loom out, struggled the first bit but it eventually went, Got some black conduit that i am going to run across the top of the chassis rail and then silicone each end after fixing it all and taping it all up. Atleast then i shouldn't have any problems with the rear again...

I was also thinking of running some more single cables along the loom and using them as earths and running all the earths back to the front bulkhead.

you should have seen the bulkhead and chassis that were hidden, and i paid 2800 for it with a 19j in it 2 years ago...

Lessons learnt in full here!!

Slowly getting through the faults but the chassis can only be patched up so much before i need to replace it.
