Hi my 2.5 NA diesel has a fault on starting It clicks in the fuse box, I have opened the box and think a small box (with a tin lid) is causing the problem if you quickly turn the Key on and off some times it starts. I know it is not the battery as this has been checked can anyone help?
Kind regards

Kevin

sounds like a relay, try swapping it with another one or buy a new one.:D

Hi there, The clicking in the fuse box will be the starter relay. If it always clicks when you turn the key then that sounds OK. There is a wire going from this relay to the solenoid sitting on top of the starter motor. The connector on this wire which can be found down past the exhaust pipe often gets damaged. It takes alot of **** it this position, gets very hot and can be pulled if lots of DIY wiring has gone through the bulkhead. Check this connection, clean it up or renew if necessary and see how works.

i use to have the same problem with my 2.5td lanny mine use to click like yours mine infact was the wire from the top of the starter to the soleniod try using a thicker cable, you will find your starter is the big heavy old type which were crap when new, mine use to drive me nuts in the end i threw it in the bin and fitted a 300tdi starter never looked back since starts perfect now and the starter is smaller than the old unit and a hell of a lot easier to get to than the old one.....
