Hi.. I’ve got a 2009 freelander 2 and am getting an intermittent but increasingly frequent fault. The satnav/display will keep resetting/briefly goes off and back on again. The radio will briefly cut out at the same time and it keeps losing Bluetooth connection to my phone and then won’t find my phone when I try to reconnect.

It will do this cycle for say 10mins and then will work faultlessly for a period and then begin doing it again (on a single drive). Only been happening a few days but very annoying.

Previous to that the dash was saying (and still is) HDC fault/transmission fault. That began around 2 weeks ago. I put a new battery in as I’d read the system can be sensitive to a failing battery but no difference.

Any ideas? Hoping it’s a common (and not terribly expensive!) thing to rectify. Am diving to wales in a few days from Sussex and worried I’ll break down with my young family.

Thanks for reading.

HDC fault when starting is the battery either failing, or not being charged correctly by the alternator. However if the battery is more than 4 years old, that's the likely cause. If the HDC continues after a new and fully charged battery has been fitted, then a diagnostic on the charge circuit is needed, and later models need to be told a new battery has been fitted.

The infotainment system resetting is normally an issue with the Bluetooth module. You can bypass it to prove it's the issue using a MOST bypass loop.

Neither of these issues would normally prevent the car from working, or cause it to breakdown.

Nosge68 thanks for the info. Is the diagnosis of the charging system simply testing the battery with a multimeter when the car is running or a bit more to it? I suppose it’s a good place to start. The car is 2009 HSE, is that likely to need “telling” about the new battery and if so how do you go about that?

I’ve read somewhere you can unplug the Bluetooth module and see if the screen etc settles to confirm.

The car is driving fine.. just was a bit nervous of a long journey with the family so thanks for putting my mind at rest. Well plough on without the radio!
