Hi all
Collected my new (to me) 2003 defender hi cap pick up td5
The other day I drove it from Scotland to derby when I arrived at my workshop noticed the drivers wing had smoke coming from it, it smelt like electrics hot the smoke was coming from the top corner near the windscreen through the joint of the wing edge!
I disconnected the battery as soon as I realized.

The wing it's self was very hot!

Anyone experienced this?

I am new to landrovers but I am expectancies mechanic,
Understand the earth points are under the wings?

there is a ballast on some half way along the drivers wing that is something to do with the headlights iirc, normally hidden out of the way unless u remove the liner

cheers steve

think its the resistor for the dimdip headlights tucked underneath about half way above wheel arch (stupid idea from day one) - search I think there are removal threads, or its a pretty standard piece of electronickery for straight replacement - 'specially for someone so expectant...... :) A
