Hello all,

I have.... er.... "broken" my dads Kv6 Freeelander when changing the thermostat :(

I have a 2001 Freelander with the 2.5 petrol KV6 engine which will not start after the Thermostat was replaced by myself (2nd time it has been done by me in 2 years).

I believe the cables going into the connector for the alternator (C0053 in Rave manual) may have shorted when it was put back on as the wires have got brittle over the years and the insulation has broken away, allowing the wires to touch when I put the connector back in after the work and i think i turned the ignition on when they were touching

Symptoms include:
Will Not Crank - the relay has been tested and is good.
No power to the radio.
Heater blower does not work at all.
AC button light does not illuminate when ignition turned on

Other electrical systems in the car work fine like the windows, mirrors, lights, indicators etc etc and The battery has been tested and is good and another one has been tried just in case. I have metered out all the fuses and they all report as good. I have used a test light to test the command wire on the starter relay is being received and it is so the ignition contacts are working.

I'm now at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed ....I don't want to throw too much money at the car due to its age but at the same time if its something simple/cheap then it may be worth fixing at the end of the day??

I am posting on here for either
1. Some advice on how to proceed if someone could help......

2. If someone fancies a project and wants to but the car for £400 (the rest of the car is in good nick and i know the engine is good and had cam belt changed recently)

3. anyone has any other ideas????

I look forward to hearing from someone...... anyone....... help.......

All fusible Links have been checked with a multi-meter and all check out fine (as in they pass current) :(

The car is located in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire which is just south of Birmingham.

If anyone is interested in buying or helping fix (would be paid obviously) then let me know.

I need to get it shifted now as its in my way and if i cant it will be a visiting the scrapyard for its final days which would be a real shame for a car with good engine, cam belt recently changed decent tyres etc etc. I could break it up but havent really got the time or the location to do it.

Cheers,
Jon
