There is an electric fan on my disco 1 200tdi (not installed by me!).

This weekend the engine was close to overheating as the fan wasn't working (new thermostat needed i think!).

I bypassed the thermostat to get the fan running, which worked, but the wiring got really hot as the wires are tiny!

I cannot see any spec on the fan so have no info on what current it draws. Can anybody give me guidance on what wire size would be standard on an electric fan?

Mines got a 30 amp fuse in it so, ermm... 50amp wire belt and braces?
Is it fused at all? Should be if not.

Yeh there is an inline fuse from the battery to the fan supply. It did pop a couple times when i was trying to bridge the thermo while still using the relay. Hence i figured something was a miss and just wired direct to the fan (still using the fuse). It was a 20 amp fuse that was in there before...

So I have re-wired with 2.5mm cable. I am still unsure what size fuse to use though.... 25 amp fuse blows. 30 amp is ok. But should my fan really be drawing 30 amp?! I tested the fan and it is pulling 20 amp when running, but no doubt higher on start up. How do I know if this is correct or if there is a fault leading it to draw high current?
