I will say I never noticed a flimsy feeling in my friend's Golf GTE when he had those but they're hybrids and not a pure electric anyway so probably not comparable.
4 x 4 for the Alps? Pajero or Land Cruiser would be my choiceI think they have their place and I love the way they produce torque, I also really like the Tesla Model S, I thought it was brilliant when it first came out and they are getting to a pretty good price point now too (especially if you can get one with the free super charging for life as it's the car not the owner). That said, I don't own one and I don't want one badly enough to do it.
Ideally, my wife should have a Nissan Leaf or something as it would be perfect for the sort of driving she does and it would save money but I can't see that she will ever be parted from her Disco 4 and who am I to argue? So we'll stick with our fleet of stupid Land Rovers and other V8s.
A colleague of mine has an MG electric thing and he says it's brilliant for the day to day stuff but (and this is something I'd never considered), the batteries are obviously very heavy so everything else is made a light as possible to aid with range etc. He tells me it's really noisy inside and feels flimsy too which is really disappointing. He's planning on moving to the Alps next year and has said it will be useless there so he'll be after a diesel 4x4 of some sort for then. I wonder if anyone can recommend anything to him?

Overall, electric is very inefficient, all the voltage conversions from generator to home, all the line losses along the way and then at your house power has to be converted to DC to charge the battery and back to AC for the motor. Then you have the weight which consumes more fuel.I think we all agree it’s probably better but we’re also being fed some miss truths a bit like the diesel economy figures of recent years.
Plus without 100% renewable energy it’s a scam anyway because the CO2 from fossil fuels is still being pumped out.
As cars they’re generally an awesome drive ( in a good one) but I smell fudged figures somewhere.
