Hi Again,
Can anyone tell me if the LR 2.5n/a deisel engine has a EGR valve fitted, and if so ,where it is located on the egine block..
cheers

Hi Banzia,

I am not 100% sure and probably wrong, but aren't EGRs normally electronically controlled by an engine management system? It's a bit complex for the 2.5 N/A?

Frosticles

Thanks frosticles,
I dont know if this is the case,I believe the EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculating valve) might be a mechanical devise that assists, or not, with the combustion process on some engines, someone asked me a question regarding this and as I hadnt come accross it, wasnt sure how it works or where it was fitted.

Of course you may be right and it is only fitted to later more sophisticated engines, Ime sure someone will let me know...

ps I like your landy looks good esp the colour, do you have any more pics

cheers

Hi Banzia

EGR systems are in place on vehicles to comply with European emmisions regulations. They do absolulty nothing to aid combustion, in fact they actually hinder it.

The theory is that the recirculating gases will reduce the amount of NOX (oxides of nitrogen not nitrogen oxide;) ) released into the atmosphere by some really clever advanced chemical reaction (sorry cant be assed to get Uni notes out, been a while).

The valves tend to operate at Idle speeds.

You will never find an EGR system on a 2.5 N/a, the earliest that they started to rear their ugly heads was about 96 on the 300tdi.

If you have this system on your TDi, the best thing to do is rip it off!!! You will really notice a difference. There are blanking plates avaliable on the market, I got mine from Ebay.

Hope this helps

jim!:)

No m8 you are not missing out on having a egr valve

They are one of the most stupid things that was ever added to a moden engine and are a total waste of time.
