Ive had the disco 2 td5 on a snap on modis ultra and got EGR valve stuck open. Was on another diagnostic a few weeks ago and didn't show so guessing a new fault. What effect does this have on the vehicle? It seems to be using more fuel then a few weeks ago.

How many miles would you normally get out of £30 of diesel? Not long had a Td5 so not sure what is considered normal being used to V8s on LPG. Although using a grand Cherokee 2.7CRD is giving around 160 miles to £30. This Td5 only managed around 120 miles last week.

It depends on how far it is stuck open. EGR doesn't effect fuelling only combustible air. Loss of power with it always open would mean you have to put more throttle on, that would increase fuel consumption.

First off, the Disco 2 is NOT OBDII compliant, so unless you use a diagnostic scanner specifically designed for the Disco 2 such as Nanocom, Hawkeye, Lynx or Testbook then you are going to get some pretty erroneous readings.
The EGR being stuck open, if it is fully open isn't a fault to worry about, many users have removed the thing anyway; why squirt already burned dirty gasses back into the engine?

Yes I've thought about just removing the EGR valve now that it's faulty.

As for reading codes, I've not found any issues so far reading it. Both diagnostics I've used have gave the same code except for EGR valve which I guessed just happened. Code is 91 EGR valve stuck open on the Snap On Modis.

I also have the 3 amigos and both diagnostics have said front right wheel speed sensor. I get code 89 front right wheel sensor (output to low) and 117 front right wheel sensor (output intermittent) Also code 9016 open circuit fault in left pretensioner circuit and my SRS light comes on and off.

I'm looking for my own diagnostic unit but want a universal one that can can cover others too as we have an Audi and Jeep in the family as well as the 3 land rovers. I looked at the Autel 820 all systems.

The ''EGR stuck open" is bad news, it's the opposite of stuck closed which is the case of bypassed one, if it's stuck open the engine runs mostly on exhaust gasses which is not good at all, fit a bypass kit ASAP

I beg to differ, if the EGR is stuck fully open you have big problems, not least the ability to lay a smoke screen better than a WWII destroyer and the inability to pull the skin off a rice pudding. Having the EGR valve disabled is a totally different thing to having it stuck fully open.

+1^^^, that's what i was trying to say too :)

I stand corrected gents.
I thought the ERG was open when it was presenting the least restriction to the airflow through it. Obviously I had it the wrong way round, that's when it's closed.
