Hi Guys I am looking to fit this moddy to my landy I can probably make this unit myself ( i am a coded welder and have lathes etc...) can anyone give dimensions of an original unit that works on an engine , (I have heard some mods dont fit correctly) i.e pipe dia,. and lengths of both tubes, plate size and hole centres etc... I can double check these with measurements off ny engine position to make the valve. Is there any components in the large dia, tube, ? To render this a VALVE as such. I presume the small tube is just a blanking pipe and capped end. Any comments welcome, . AMO

May the force be wth you.:)

Thanks Chaser I knew I could rely on an a true officionado of the Landy realm to help out. :p

I just cut a bit of 6mm plate and stuck it in my disco, there was a cast bit with a gasket either side, I took em off and stuck em to my plate and heh presto, tossed the cast plate and off course drill two holes in it.

Thanks David, I assume everything works ok with the plate blanks on, i will give this a go this week . Ta :)

There's loads of threads on this model, from plugging the vacuum pipe which disables the egr if it is sealed properly, to fitting a blank in the egr like I did with my disco, to the full bypass kit which you should be able to get on ebay. You need to clean the inlet manafold and preferably the intercooler aswel.

Guess you could make a bypass, aint rocket technology I make all the bits for my disco, and there is pictures in the threads on the egr mod.

Thanks David I am working through all the threads to get the full sp on the mod, some good info stuff on this site. Ta:)

Without being rude, surely the most reliable way is to take a set of measurements of an EGR yourself, or even better, have an old scrapper on the bench beside the one you're trying to fabricate. That way there can be no confusion over measurements.

We have had similar issues on here before, and short of drawing up a full spec engineering drawing, there will always be room for error.

good luck, and if you can make a better one than on ebay, no reason why you shouldn't advertise them on here, as long as you can make them at a similar price to ebay. I'd rather buy one from someone who knows what he's about with a welder and lathe, than some unknown on ebay, who's just having them made and selling them on.

Neither was I.
I just couldn't understand why anyone with those skills would ask for dimensions of something they already have.

maybe didn't want to dismantle something that was working, albeit badly, to try and make a new one, and then not have anything to go back to.

wasn't implying you was rude chaser, and certainly no offence intended old bean.

HI chaps, sorry for being so blase about the measurements but in hindsight I was looking for any tried and failed attempts at the Valve/ blank, I am fairly new to the site and as such hadnt checked thresds, I have now and I have mucho more information and other methods of blanking off the egr. I will try to fab,. this from stainless steel and (from some of the bought blanks not aligning correctly) I will try to source a flexy stainless branch pipe to use as the blank end smaller tube. The idea of the whole blank mod being a rigid unit, without some allowable movement gives me some doubt to its long term life. Thanks for the feedback, I will be looking around for suitable pieces to make a test unit over the next few days / weeks. :) Amo

Don't worry too much about that as the original egr is rigid with no allowable movement.

Hi chromium, I was a just tad concerned that with the original set up having a rubber hose in the circulation with the egr valve it may be wise not to connect these as a rigid unit.
However the original bypass units seem to work okay, and as you say are strong enough for the job. Thanks. Amo

:eek:aaaaaaaaaaaggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,
theres no need for any flexy moddy bendy thingy, the exhaust isn't needed it won't be doing anything just take it off with the egr valve and bin it!! make a blank flange and fit it with a new gasket and the two torx bolts, simple, secure and reliable.

make a four bolt flange welded to a suitably sized piece of pipe to replace the egr valve itself sealed with the original o ring. no branch, nothing, zilch, all neat and tidy.....

:dizzy: calming down now...head hurts...tablets...feeling tired...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......

No probs Chaser , I can see what your saying now, keep it simple cheap and cheery. Thanks for clearing that matter up. Ease off on the tablets, you"ll end up with an headache!! Cheers again. Amo
