Hello, I am currently swapping all new stuff from my old 98 dse to new dhse 2000.

I chipped my old car ecu and would like to know if I can swap the ecu over instead of buying a new chip.

@wammers would know for sure but I suspect not as your '98 would not have EGR but your '00 would and there are slightly different inputs. If not you'll have to give the BECM the new EMS code.

I think the chips themselves can be swapped over. I had a look when I first got mine but cannot remember what it looked like. I think there are 2 chips? 1 has the fuelling maps on, I think. Depending what else is on there it might be possible to swap that chip over and that would effectively be chipped but I'm not sure if there is anything specific to the EGR on that chip.

Thinking about it, if you blank off the EGR with a coin and then swap the fuelling chip over it'd probably work although you might need to work out a way to get the IAT guage input to the engine ECU so it can adjust for warm weather or it'll be overfuelling slightly all the time?

The 98 dse has egr, I noticed tho that the 2000 has a fan on gearbox intercooler.
Also when I purchased the chip of ebay, it stated you must checked chip number on ecu and then tell seller who would then send correct chip.
Would I do any damage by swapping over?
I have the syncmate also so I can resync.

Well that's it done, 20mins, swapped the ecus over, used the sunyc mate on each car. Both started up.

And oh what a difference in responsiveness, acceleration etc with he chipped ecu in this dhse.

I'll admit i was watching for smoke and sparks. But it looks OK.

Now tomorrow, gonna swap over the grooved and drilled brake discs/pads, radius arms with poly bushes. 30mm wheel spacers. And the straight through exhaust. Doubt I'll get it all. Done in one day.

I need to get it all done for the weekend. That's when the dse is being sold.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I'll be back!!

Most of that is a waste of time and the exhaust is illegal and should fail the new MOT if the UK stay in the EU.

Well the discs aren't a waste of time, I paid 219 for 4, including pads. Cheaper than most standard disc sets.

Radius arm bushes, well they were shot and I paid very little for poly bushes an d lifetime guarantee.

Wheel spacers, purely cosmetic.

Straight thru exhaust, personal taste I suppose, not as loud as v8, nice in my opinion. Plus the power benefits also.

And with regards to EU and mot, I shall cross that bridge when it comes. If lol

Brake disc & pads expensive,
Polybushes spoil the ride.
Wheels spaces possibly dangerous.
Plus an illegal exhaust:rolleyes:
If you want to be a boy racer, there are better vehicles than a P38.

Suppose on the up side/legal side I am now getting 27mpg running around town! Need to take her on the highway and see what she getting.
In your dreams, that will be the figure on the message centre no doubt which as it's chipped will not be accurate. Mine did 28 on the display until I put it back to standard to save the gear box. The real figure checked brim to brim was and is 24mpg.
