I had one. Look on projects.

Not enough flow for demist and forcing it will screw up the safety features.

Good for heat though. See cheap Chinese.

Others have used bilge motors instead of the standard series heater blower and reported good results, although, I tried one and it didn't seem to perform any better. No more wind than the regional blower motor.

Never needed one in my old petrol series

Is yours petrol or diesel? Have you changed the thermostat? Have you back flushed the heater matrix? Is the heater box sealed properly to the bulkhead? Have you tested the blower motor speeds and resistances?

Bobsticle has a good thread in the members vehicle forum about fitting a diesel fuelled air heater, seems that for less than £130 you can get a 8KW heater kit and all the heat you need.

Mine doesn’t have any fittings at all for a heater, no matrix, no piping etc.....I got it when I lived in the Canaries where heaters weren’t needed...! Don’t like the sound of these Chinese heaters I joined a FB forum to find out about them and they seem to be a bit hit and miss, I didn’t know there was a projects section, I’ll have a look. Someone on FB reckoned a heated screen is best for demisting, might go that way and look for a secondhand diesel heater for warmth.....

I use a D5 Eberspacher in my workshop. Think it came out of a truck, gives plenty of heat but doubt it would blow hard enough to demist. The series two club had a batch of heated screens made a year or two ago.

The diesel heater clears my screen in about 20 mins. It’s not pointed at them but generally dries the whole interior in that time.

Have a look at the Russian made Planar heaters, cheaper then Eberspacher or Webasto heaters. Made to European safety specifications. The Russians should no something about cold weather.

Nicjaxe swears by ram air on series 3 matrix has a pipe from front into a y piece from fan so when driving gets good air flow his pic attached.

Good Info all, thanks very much. Didn’t know the planar heater was Russian, will have a look. Might be best to get a heated screen and a diesel heater! ....have already got the nagging wife .....making my old Santana look tidier at least....

OK, going to go with the heated screen....anyone used the Paddock model? Prices seem quite good for the complete kit, screen, wiring etc...

From what I’ve hurd some are the old fashioned type not the modern micro wire sort you get in modern cars. I ain’t a clue if they are all the same.

To be fair, I’ll be quite happy just seeing out of it!.....

I use a Webastor Thermotop, its diesel / water heater. Herats the engine and cab quite well and speeds up the demist once we get going as the water is already warm. We have the Smiths lfat heater and it puts out a decent flow of air (once its cleaned out) We also have a taxi heater plumbed in in the back. My understanding is the air heaters are cab heaters intended to recirculate and heat the whole volume of air rather than blow on a single area. We have the Webasto on a timer so it can be truned on onad left for 10 mins. They do a remote and it has a seting to come on automatically if its -5 but this is more trouble tha its worth. Several times I've looked out to see a nice warm defrosted Landy on a day I'm not goiong anywhere.

Yes, good point. My intital thought was to plumb in the diesel heater to work as a de mister, I don’t think it will do that job very well! My Rover doesn’t have any heater fittings or piping from the engine etc. a heated screen solves the vision problems and the diesel heater will do what it was designed for, heating the cab....
