Ebayer Question

Good evening all.

After a bit of advice after coming across a couple of scammers via eBay in the process of trying to sell my 110.
Has anyone had any dealings with the eBay user nick.stone.mp7.
Come's across as a genuine kinda person, ask's the right kinda questions, Has asked for extra pictures etc. The only thing that's striking me as bit odd, No buyer/seller feedback for the past year, and wants to Transfer the money now, but collect the vehicle at the end of Feb..

I'm going to insist on Paypal for peace of mind rather than a direct transfer for one.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What is to stop you keeping it for sale and then if it is still for sale at the end of Feb he can turn up with the cash and take it off your hands.

Other than that what is the concern, although why do you want to use Paypal?

Paypal will charge you huge fees on a vehicle purchase, i wouldn't unless you take this into account with the sale price.

I shall put that to the bidder and see what the outcome is.

I was under the impression that Paypal was a "safer way" to transfer funds rather than hand out bank details for a money transfer... Correct me if I'm miles off the point.
Cash does seem the more sensible option in this case.

Devils advocate time

You take his money now and store the motor

You send the money on a new motor, I presume.
He eventually turns up but decides to reject the motor and wants his money back.

What happens then?

Good points, All things I hadn't thought about. Always part ex'd cars in the past, so all new territory.

Yeah, sell and buy another vehicle is the idea.

Hahaha. You've totally just fallen for PayPal's scam (otherwise known as marketing)

Read the small print. You have no (as in totally zero) protection for items picked up in person.

Chap collects item, tells PayPal that he did not, PayPal refunds his cash from your account.

You, and everyone else reading this, have been warned.

Ah, Great for buyers/scammers, rubbish for sellers by the sounds of things!

If he's genuine, he'll come and look at the vehicle and you can sort the payment from there. A bank transfer is so easy nowadays and you can see the money land in your account in minutes normally i.e. before he gets to drive off

Is "nick.stone.mp7" a Nigerian Prince by any chance? or just some dodgy hero out of an Andy McNab book?

Haha, Supposedly Ex MOD....

Out in Kosovo tense wanting to collect at the end of Feb....

Think the suggestion of doing a bank transfer or cash when/if he comes to pick up/ look at the vehicle. And keep it listed is the most sensible option.

PS bacs can be bounced until the close of business too.

Also check PayPal's seller protection limits for shipped items too - they are finite and lower than you may think.

Sounds like it (the ops situation) may be the overpayment scam. Just take bacs payment, but don't release the goods till the day.after.

...and never refund any cheque overpayment!

I used to make my money selling items in the £500 - £3500 range on eBay. I know that's hardly massive money, but way too much to loose. Hence needing to be sure that I didn't - loose.

Paypal not only take a fee on the sale but take another fee to refund.
Tell him no. Youll sell it anyway.

Ok, an Update.

Got home to a message from the guy saying that his wife won't let him buy until he sells his car.

Problem solved....

On the other hand - Td5 Defender 110 anyone......

The best way is take them to the bank and get them to withdraw the money in cash , that gets round the counterfeit risk as well .

And, IME, get the same bank to then pay into your account right there and then - I do see the potential problem of him not using the same bank as you.... but It works with most banks - did it last week... he was HSBC, and I'm not - essentially instant transfer, which cannot be clawed back.
