Hi, I was wondering if anyone had used one of these ECU's from eBay?

Land Rover Discovery / Defender TD5 ECU with performance remap (NNN) | eBay

And if so what they though of them? They are from a seller called "Mastaz1" . He has both MSB and NNN type ECU for sale at £400 and £500 respectively.

They are remapped and ready to plug in for performance upgrade. I have a 2000 model 110 with a large intercooler, straight through exhaust and K&N. But I want to be sure that the "Mastaz" ECU will make my defender perform well. I was thinking about getting the NNN unit.

Obviously it would be better to take my car somewhere but I would need to buy a standard NNN ECU first then take a day off work etc to have that done so a plug in unit seams appealing!!! Mastaz claims that the ECU will not need coding as its programmed for any Td5

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Gordy

I was also hoping someone who has had one of these re maps to provide feedback. I like the idea of keeping my original ecu for mot time etc. Obviously seen the alive remaps etc but think I would be good to keep the option of standard given the new mot tests etc.....

I see the Mastaz website is still going. It would be interesting to try one of these if anyone has a spare £700 or so lying around.

Surely it would be a cheaper option to discuss the effects of a remap on emissions and its consequences on the MoT with somebody like Mike from Dynachip before making the decision to remap a Td5.
I believe that when he does a remap he supplies a copy of the original ECU map before he does his magic.

My defender is a 10p td5 so it’s a chip removal and re solder in a replacement, so not so easy to send back to standard. Or so I believe?

Normally when the chip is removed they solder in a chip holder so the new one is just plug in and the old one can be re inserted if required.

Personally, I’m very wary of “plug and play” style tuning. It’s a lot of trust placed in someone that it isn’t going to screw something up for you. Especially at £400-£500-£700!! When I had my Octavia remapped, I had a brief conversation over the phone with the chap, he then came to my home address, ran a diagnostic check then sat and had a cuppa and discussed the pros and cons with me and what I hoped to achieve. This was all no obligation and no cost until he started the mapping and even then there was a one months money back/return to standard guarantee. I had no problems with the remap and it has not caused any problems mechanically. It massively improved the drivability with bothering a good improvement in power/torque or economy depending on driving style. This was a custom map that was done for my car taking into account the discussion I had before the work was done and I’ve been 100% happy with it. Would I have got the same service and satisfaction from a postal, plug and play service, I suspect not.... and the above only cost me £250 to boot!
