Hi,

I am from the East Riding. I am new to the whole world of 4x4, mainly buying one to get me to work in winter, and for dog transportation purposes, but I am also keen to use for what it was built for... maybe not hardcore off-roading, but green laning would be a start.

I have read the stuff on here about it, but there doesn't seem to be much on my area. I live on the coast of the East Riding, and would like to know if there is anywhere to go - LEGALLY - in the area?

Thanks in anticipation

Don't know if they still exist, but try and find the Yorksire Rover Owners Club. I used to do a lot of green lanes with them. If you do go it alone, take an OS map, mark the lane and give the details to the Green Lanes Officer. That way we managed to keep a lot from being downgraded into foot or bridle paths!

Good luck. It is an enjoyable and worthwhile passtime.

A word of warning, though. Treat the lanes with respect and do not cause any damage!!

The dipsticks with their big, ugly yank junk and the little Jap crap tearing along with no thoughts for anyone else, gave off-roading a bad name a few years ago! Don't be one of them!!

Hello from Beverley

I'm relatively new as well. I went on my first off roading weekend this weekend with a nearly standard Disco 1. It's only got AT's and we took the front bumper off and I was amazed how good it was off road. I'd be interesed to see if you find anywhere in the local area. I think Scarborough has been mentioned a few times.

I've been looking on Ordnance Survey map 107 Kingston upon Hull. It shows a number of bridle ways and "roads" that are unregistered around the Aldbrough, Hornsea region... worth a look???
