:welcome2:had a look inside the valve block today, doesnt seem that complex
each valve consists of an electromagnetic plunger that openes or closes an airway when signals are recd from the ecu
i have also included some pics
sorry pics arent that sharp they were took on a camera phone

My other PC that has Rave on it ain't working at the moment but they're not quite 'simple' solenoid valves. I believe you can burn 'em out if you just put 12V across them. Hence the need for the driver pack. Can't answer the obvious question though as to why they wouldn't just use straight on/off solenoid valves.

The driver pack is needed because the logic level outputs from the ECU do not provide enough current to drive a solenoid.
Standard on/off solenoids such as I use on machines would do the job in my opinion but the solenoid response times might be slower. The EAS solenoids seem capable of operating at high frequencies, heaven knows why. I haven't had a scope on them yet to see just how fast they are.
