What would you like to see the EAS software run on

True, if the EAS software coulld be developed stable on Droid it would be more likely to get takers, dispite me voting for IOS ;)
I'm not smart enough to get the stuff going on Android, I'm hoping some young blood can do that. For my own use I'm looking at Windows. Too expensive to be a re-sale proposition though, got to be droid for the price to be competitive to able to sell it on as a package with the cable etc.

Well as soon as I have anything I'll be asking for your addess and sending you a copy to play with - but so far I've done nothing as my mate came round last night with a box of beers - so everything was forgotten about for a few hours lol

This looks to be the way forward...Mono

PM me when you are ready.:) Tablet will not be here until the end of the month as it's coming by rickshaw post.

Yep but the license fee for developers was too high for me to gamble without the knowledge.:)
The emulator is free to download, not having bought the eas software yet I have no idea how its written or what it looks like but if you can emulate the .net environment....

The EAS software is a free download, I just supply it on CD with the cable I make for the EAS and pay a small royalty. It's a very crude piece of software running under netframework, operating speed could be important.
Not had much success with emulators, generally slow and cumbersome but the way I read it you need the Mono version of netframework for Android?
I'm way out of date on all this stuff. It seems possible to run Windows Office on Android devices, not that I would bother as I use Open Office.

Yes basically emulating the .netframework to then run / build those applications. I will have more of a read up when I get home and see if I can run it on my phone

Sentimental old sod. Just about everybody else has moved on to LibreOffice but you have to retain the little bit of Englishness.

thought that was the same as Open Office but for Android?
Heres another tablet for you 400337692134 £52 from the UK inc P&P:)

LibreOffice is the one bundled with Ubuntu now. I don't think there's much difference. I believe that there was a falling out a couple of years ago but it isn't something that interests me overmuch.

I'm going to wait on your reports on tablets. I can tether my netbook to my Blackberry so I'm not sure how much advantage I would gain. I just see the youngsters all having tablets and wonder if I'm missing out.

My only interest in the tablet is to be able to leave it in the car for diagnostics, my laptop is too big and expensive to fit in the glove box or even the pockets in the front seat backs.
I like my old fashioned keyboard:)
I've no doubt that tablets have their uses, but to some extent they are just a passing fad like CB radio was years ago.
It might come in handy as an E Reader since I can't easily access English language books over here.:)

Could you make a cable from micro USB.. then could potentially run it off a smart phone!

The EAS is basically a serial RS232 protocol, a USB to serial adaptor is needed to run it. No problem converting to micro USB though. Doubt a phone screen is big enough to see much:)
My Galaxy S3 has a 4.8 inch screen...... Might work!

It's so simple, I can't do it.

High level overview:

One Arduino Uno

"The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328 (datasheet). It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started."

One Raspberry Pi

You can rig these up to be a web server and use a dongle as an access point. It can connect to the Uno through its USB

Breakout box from your RS232 connection to Faultmate/Nanocom to see what is going in and out

Code table to convert to English

Lash all together, advertise and retire to a watermill in France.

Look forward to hearing about the beta by the end of February.

Of course, were it to be that simple, we wouldn't be such fans of Blackbox. They've done it already in a small package that doesn't seem that expensive once it's identified a couple of problems.
