Oh I see....:)

I would be interested in these lectures - aslong as they weren't held by the same school that teaches the air blown from the heaters changes trajectory and blows sideways, when negotiating a corner - if they were I'd get yer money back....:D:D:D

My method of checking compressor output and for diaphragm leakage, is quoted by everybody as standard now, although when i first suggested it as a checking method, i was berated quite a lot by people who don't know their arse from their elbow. :):):D:D

I have come across a lot of people who blow air out their arse, but have yet to meet one who does out their elbow:D

Next time I quote it, I will follow it with:

'The best way to check the EAS Compressor is to disconnnect the blue pipe and press your thumb over the outlet, a good compressor will not allow you to block the output due to air pressure, if you can, the compressor is more than likely knackered - This test was brought to you today courtesy of Wammers ©2011' :D:D:D:):)

Well, I must admit that I let the fact that the compressor is only 6 months old cloud my logic. I was sure it was something else that had gone wrong.

What is actually happening is that it is "very difficult" to stop the air coming out of the compressor, but not impossible. I have no idea whether my 3psi reading is correct or not. But, yes, it is possible to stop the airflow.

The compressor is now going back to Island 4x4 for a replacement. I will also be querying why their Web site says that the compressor is a Dunlop, but what I received was a Britpart.

I am probably gonna get into trouble saying this just like AllanC did.....

AllanC noted that a piston seal he fitted with a different piston liner, lasted only a few months - he was a bit miffed too.....

But I won't get into the whys and wherefores, I leave you to search that thread out....

I am not saying Island4x4 have supplied a dodgy unit, but it would be best to send it back to them and get a replacement so they can investigate....

Island4x4 have a great reputation so I guess this is just an error.

Was refering to people coming on and saying don't do that, it's dangerous expecting to get inflated or something. Which is of course a load of nonsense.

As you know- as I have mentioned before - I am a bit of a Pressure System wimp, but even I had the nounce to know my thumb isn't gonna balloon....

I remember in the Jet Provost there was an Oxygen Purge push button on the rear bulkhead....whenever you had to do work on the Oxy system you had to purge it by pressing this button....it used to make your fingers tingle with the Oxygen reacting with the oils in your skin, felt kinda weird....

But yer thumb over a Thompson Compressor with as much Volume flow as a small mouse blowing through a straw isn't gonna tear yer thumb off....!!!:D:D:D

You are 100% correct. My post was just a rare attempt at humour, which obviously failed.:).

When I orginally came across your method of testing the pump output,I decided to try it on my pump(EAS functioning normally) just to see what the output was like.I was just able to stop the out flow.Yesterday I tested it again with the same result.EAS still function normally.I do have a new seal for when it does show failure symptoms, but in the meantime I will let it carry on as is.:)

An update: Sam at Island 4x4 says that the compressors are manufactured by Dunlop but supplied to them by Britpart, which explains the Britpart instructions in the box :)

Is it worth replacing any or all of the air dryer, exhaust silencer and valve block O-rings while the car is off the road? I took the silencer off and tapped it - some fine white stuff came out - not much, and I couldn't tell if it was crystals or not. Thanks!

If you have white powder in the exhaust, it would indicate the Dryer is on the way out, so while you are at you may as well for the few extra quid it will cost you....

Dopey had a great post on replacing the Valve Block seals, so search for it, it has some great photos in it step by step....
